If you read my other blog, you’d know I am the proud owner of a Windows Media Center pc that’s plugged into my living room hdtv. Well, I needed some background noise/color while I did some work. MTV of the eighties would have been perfect, but we all know and complain about the fact that MTV doesn’t do the music video thing anymore. Even MTV2 seems to be getting away from videos.
After channel surfing and finding nothing, I decided to hit the “Online Spotlight” button featured in my media center main menu. There I found MTVU– MTV for college kids I’m assuming. I put the live feed to full-screen and let it go. They actually played a lot of videos. And some of them were pretty decent. It was a nice blend of conscious hip-hop and indie rock– what you’d expect those intellectual college kids to be into. I admit there were many repetive news clips and interstitials. These will make you want to shove pencils in your ears and rip out your eyes after about the fifth witnessing. You will be able to recite the news as MTVU wants you to after only a few hours. And some of the videos are real doozies. You’ll have to get past some trend whores. But, hey, there’re videos. That’s something, eh?
Can some other entity now please jump into this WMC “online spotlight” platform and bring the videos? Please? Even a full-screen live feed via webpage woud do. Just do it already. I’m too lazy to pick them out myself.
