Last.fm– I’m sure you’ve heard of it. Well, I have to try everything out. So here I am with a profile at last.fm tracking everything I listen to at home and work so it can figure out what other stuff I might also like. This process of tracking everything you listen to has been coined “scrobbling” by the folks at last.fm (I think). My quilt shows my “top” albums. Looking at my quilt you’re supposed to be able to get an idea of what I’m into musically. The more I listen, the more accurate a view of my tastes you will glean from my quilt. I chose the album quilt as opposed to the artist quilt– I figured album covers would be more interesting to look at than publicity photos of people.

There are some glaring problems with this quilt. The obvious Beatles, Elliott Smith, the Clash, Drive Like Jehu, and Mogwai have bubbled up to the top. But people give me new stuff to listen to all the time, and those albums are showing up since I’m listening to them in their entirety.

And most of my real top albums get repeated play in my car during my commute. I’m not online in my car. There’s a hack to get recently played data off your ipod, but it looks like too much work for my lazy tooshy right now. Another thing– I listen to cds in my car since I’m anal about fidelity. My car doesn’t have a mini-stereo jack. FM transmitters I’ve found are teh ultimate suck.

My work computer has a strange blend of mp3s of stuff people at work want me to check out, stuff I’ve found online, and cds I just happen to have on me and rip. I usually just let the whole collection fly on party shuffle unless I’m checking out something someone has given me or I’m hankering for a classic. So this quilt in no way shows my true top albums. But it’s a start.

Feel free to stalk my embarrassing listening habits– http://www.last.fm/user/pacificarms/.

If you want to know what’s in the car disc changer right now–
Feist – The Reminder
Elliott Smith – New Moon
Bonnie “Prince” Billy – Ease Down the Road
Battles – Mirrored (This has inspired me to load some classic Don Cab in the near future.)
Amon Tobin – The Foley Room.

I just pulled out
Peter, Bjorn and John – Writer’s Block
Bloc Party – A Weekend in the City
The Shins – Wincing the Night Away.

Sorry, it’s not more obscure for you. I know. I’m not much help.
